Bernardo Pinheiro & The Amazon Orchestra / Virabrequim / Onda Boa – By Cal Gibson

Super review by Cal Gibson, of The Secret Soul Society.

Welcome to Vibrabrequim, where Bernardo Pinheiro and his orchestral cats from the Amazon swing right through Marcos Valle’s ace `70s ode to Brazilian Formal One champion, Emerson Fittipaldi: beefing it up, throwing it down, bringing the disco twinkle of the original bang up to date. It’s an absolute summer stormer. Lenilson Albuquerque on the Rhodes lays it all out there – he simply flies over the keys – with  Dunga‘s lithe bassline doing all the heavy lifting underneath. Heavy disco indeed.

Voilaaa then rocks up with a remix that wallows in the depths: again the Rhodes takes centre stage, the soul and the warmth ever present, the licks and riffs bouncing off the horns. It’s early morning business of the highest order. Expect to hear both versions ricocheting around the finest dancefloors this summer. Organic, natural boogie bombs the pair of them. No wonder Senor Valle has given it the thumbs up.

Bernardo Pinheiro & The Amazon Orchestra’s Virabrequim is out now on Onda Boa.
