2023 was another marvellous, super productive, musical year for maestro Italian electronic musician / composer, Gigi Masin. First, he collaborated with Greg Foat on Dolphin, an understated album of laidback keyboard-led jazz, that just got better and better with each listen. Then, completely changing tack, Gigi turned in an incredible techno remix of spiritual soul man Eddie Cachon, which sounded like Chet Baker, if he’d suggested that we get lost in outer space. In cahoots with Echochord’s Rod Modell, Gigi proved that he’d lost none of his unique ambient magic by wooing us with the wonderful, romantic Red Hair Girl At The Lighthouse Beach. Music From Memory were the label responsible for rediscovering, waking the world to Gigi’s genius, and Gigi’s Panama Girl was one of many highlights on the imprint’s terrific 10th anniversary comp, 10. With no sign of letting up, Gaussian Curve, the group Gigi formed with Jonny Nash and Young Marco, have a new single, Winter Sun, scheduled for release next month.
Super selections and wonderful words by Gigi Masin.
Vince Clarke / Songs of Silence

In my opinion, Mr. Clarke is one of the innovators who is not yet fully recognised for what he has done and for what he is worth… This record goes straight to the heart, without those ‘tricks and incense’ of others more famous than him.

When a poet dies, we are all alone and without any shelter. A record of a poignant beauty.

For those, like me, eternally in love with Ireland, it’s so nice to discover that those voices always find new languages to send us dreams and magic.

Like exchanging some confidences over a coffee, that intimate and sincere talk that we need so much.

Sit by the sea and listen to infinity… a record that speaks to all our frailties, and warms the heart like an embrace. This confrontation with silence, this naked exposure in front of life, is one of the best gifts you can hope for from music.

Known in the past as Tempelhof, this Italian duo has changed its name and resumed weaving a passionate, intense, pure music. This is the second album from their new project, and for me one of their most fascinating releases.
Various Artists /Music From Memory 10

Despite the immense grief we all felt at the loss of label co-founder, and friend, Jamie Tiller, Music From Memory released this incredible collection to mark their 10th anniversary. If many of my dreams have now come true, a lot of credit goes to the the enthusiasm and hard work of the Amsterdam-based imprint. The compilation is crammed with really great music made by a host of talented, and important, musicians who have al contributed to, and benefited from, the success of the label.
