Mysticisms have a new Dubplate lined up, and this one comes care of L.S. Diezel & Launch DAT. It`s the first in a potential series of releases that`ll revive sought-after sides from the South East London label, Digi Dub. Born out of an early `90s squat / free party scene – very similar to the one that birthed The Orb and The KLF – with strong ties to the Mutoid Waste Company, the music on the imprint, run by Jah Shaka devotee Lee Berwick, fused reggae and dub with breaks and trance. Weatherall span tracks such as RIP`s Donkey Dub, and Skunk Funk, included here, is something of a classic. Heavy and hypnotic its built on a loping, head-banging, loop, that sounds like a stuttered, phased and filtered-to-fuck, play on the timeless Cuss Cuss rhythm. While its all about the b-line, details like percussion fills and axe licks are enthusiastically cut in. Chopped out.
Also on the E.P. are For The Love Of, and its version, Bad Boys, which while they step to twittering circuitry and electro elements, feature folk-flavoured vocals, which lend them a kind of Celtic, Gaelic feel. This is doubled-up by sea-shanty-like keys, bursts / blasts of bawdy bandoneon that sort of foreshadow Elijah Minnelli`s Breadminster County Council cumbia-coloured sound.
L.S. Diezel & Launch DAT`s For The Love Of E.P. is available to preorder from Mysticisms.
