Artificial System / In This World

Artificial System return with some more painstakingly crafted, slightly sinister Sci-Fi soundscapes. Four characteristically quality, intricate, complex productions that travel uncharted, sometimes eerie rivers, toward the darker side of ambient. The results are most certainly psychedelic. Like Water floats on fluid sequences, that rush and ripple like obsidian nocturnal currents. Awash with subterranean scraping and scratching, and brief snippets of stray World Service transmissions, the piece is powered by pulses of processed noise: drones, a hypnotic hum, and snatches of what could be chopped and screwed metal guitar. An intense aural hallucination, it had me thinking of both Rheinzand’s recent radical remix of Heavyhandz’s Cages and Black Merlin’s occult work on Bali’s Island Of The Godz. It Comes In Waves even features a Timothy Leary-esque guide at the start of its inner space trip. A heavy psyche atmosphere, carrying a haunted air, its futuristic Fourth World fog of distant jungle screeches is thick with ghostly suggestions of horns and howls.

Feelings Of Wellbeing is icy electro, gothic instrumental synth-pop. Chocka with circuit chatter and, in conflict with its moniker, harbouring ominous storm cloud-like swells. The set takes its name from the number,  In This World, perhaps underling Artificial System’s serious sonic terraforming. They’re auteur-like shaping of an imagined planet. Building / birthing an evolving Ai eden unspoiled by man. A dub techno-derived deep dancefloor epic, serrated electric sound effects, lighting, sparks and cyberpunk steam, slash across its big bass drum. The bottom-end boom moving the body, while busy details, rattles and whispers in its shadows, draw the mind further and further in.
