Be With Records celebrate their 10th anniversary with a bespoke compilation and book. Titled Joyride and Labour Of Love, respectively, together they highlight landmarks the label has achieved, and friends who’ve helped along the way.

The album collects 10 exclusive tracks from artists within the Be With extended family. Reflecting the imprint’s eclectic nature, the selections are a pretty varied bunch, but all have one thing in common, soul. Opening with Thomas Almqvist’s Lullaby for Zak, a delicate dance of acoustic guitar picking, and closing with the pop rock funk of Prince alumni Andre Cymone’s Sex Love Experience.

In between you get Lewis Taylor’s Cherry Blossom, a soulful croon in the tradition of Bobby Caldwell and Ned Doheny, but with a dusted, busted D’Angelo-esque beat, and the locking, popping electro-boogie Brit funk of 52nd Street. Coastlines submit Hot Winds, a smooth synthetic samba, which shimmies on a tropical beach with sand twixt its toes. Autumn Defense’s Bluebird Fall is 1960s / `70s Laurel Canyon-esque folk.

Mic Murphy’s `90s, archival Salon Du Chocolat combines flute and a funky break to create some wah-wah spiked acid jazz. Maston and Stimulator Jones pay homage to library music house KPM with jazz of a more laidback flavour. Maston’s track blessing the comp with its title. Mr Jones’ Aquarius Pisces Cusp being vibes-led. Kenny Dickenson’s Stupid Rain, I guess, could also be classified as jazz, but initially it throws listeners an ambient curveball. Starting out as a symphony of soft synthesised harmonies and sampled weather, before bringing in a chunky, rolling beat and the rest of the instrumentation.
