Recorded in Los Angeles, following a knockout bout of flu, Seahawks’ Time Enough For Love captures a fragile, post-fever dream calm. Produced with Brian Foote, whose credits include work on Kranky, Mexican Summer, Not Not Fun and Peak Oil, the LP also features Kenny Dickenson on assorted keys. Adding cool Fender Rhodes flourishes and whirlpools of Wurlitzer.
Across 8 originals new age nuances shower and swirl. These lush landscapes sometimes set to gentle sympathetic rhythms. Riding waves of warm, warping drones. Taking a deep dive into soft rock synth solos. Harmonies are heavenly. Ethereal sighs. Stirred into the relaxing soak, seductive float, amid feel good fanfares that ignite, spark like sonic shooting stars and solar flares. Like A Grain Of Sand samples American poet Rachel Sherwood. Surrounding her words with wildlife-like whistles, piano ripples and splashes, tides of sound effects. The results reminiscent of dancer / guru Gabriel Roth’s ruminations / revelations on Ultramarine’s 90s chillout room smash, Stella. The title track surfs a bucolic breakbeat and bottom-less sub drops. Summoning the post-IDM of folks such as Push Button Objects and Funkstrong. The album then closes with a remix from Chicago collective Purelink, who take the piece’s peaceful melody, supplied by both flute and piano, and shake its serenity with dubbed-out drum & bass ricochets and low-end boom.
Seahawks’ Time Enough For Love is out now, care of Cascine.
