Woodleigh Research Facility / Maximum Vaultage Vol. 3

Woodleigh Research Facility’s latest EP frees a further 3 electro-funk cuts from the vast vaults of Nina Walsh. Too Much To Think features old school hip hop-flavoured drum programming. Its cowbell and 808 combination locking and popping, while its bass buzzes, distorted. Like a slashed speaker. Vocals are chanted, and somewhere within its 8 minutes, as it chops and changes between percussion and sound effects, thanks to a near jazzy key melody, the track morphs into “almost”house.

Foghorn Leghorn takes its name not from the famous cartoon rooster, but rather the ghostly, gothic fanfares that haunt the tune. Droning and groaning, spirited but spooky, its groove evolves, loop by loop. Snares lashing like whips. Cymbals clattering, crashing, clashing like sabres rattling. The results like a remix of a remix of Psychic TV.

Hidden Hand is slower, and chugging. A machined march full of wild whizzing and whirring. The madness countered by cascades of pretty chimes, whose frequencies flit about like hopeful, courting fireflies.
