During 2025, Cal Gibson’s Secret Soul Society, appropriately under the radar, continued to score select dance floor hits for imprints such as Hell Yeah, Is It Balearic? and Citizens Of Vice. Host of a very popular Loose FM radio show, Cal’s “super reviews” – full of passion and his particular poetry – have formed a cornerstone of Ban Ban Ton Ton for as long as the blog’s been about.

It’s always a pleasure to be asked by Rob to nominate a few favourite tunes from amongst the never-ending deluge of musical endeavour. This year I was delighted to release a couple of vinyl 12s with the guys at Magic Wand and Marco at Hell Yeah: both of which made an old geezer very happy, so thanks and praise to all. There’s way too much to choose from of course and below is a fairly random pick – would have been nice to get the likes of Don Cherry & Latif Khan, Matahari Sons, Saagara, John Lamkin, Gasper Lawal, Rick Asikpo, Los Piranas, Noura Mint Seymali, Agustin Pereyra Lucena, Babon, Ilhan Ersahin, Jazzanova, Joy Carol, Onom Agemo, BOM Nation, Perth Lewis and Land of Echo in there as well but a shout out will have to do.
