In 2025 Edinburgh’s infamous art / music collective, Fini Tribe, raided their archives to put together a comprehensive retrospective of their early career, titled The Sheer Action Of The Fini Tribe. The music and essays evocatively captured the band’s evolution from 6 school friends loosely experimenting to a tight, regimented, 24-limbed, live machine, and has since topped plenty “Best Of The Year” lists. Ban Ban Ton Ton’s included.
Prior to the album’s release – back in September – I was lucky enough to speak to founding member Chris Connelly (this conversation has since been published in not one but two parts). The Zoom link was meant to include Chris, in Chicago, and also bandmate Davie Miller, in London. Unfortunately at the last minute Davie couldn’t make it. However, as fate would have it Mr. Miller was another musical maverick that I bumped into in Convenanza’s magic castle. Here Davie picks an extremely eclectic “lucky 7, his favourites from the last 12 months.
Genre blurring / bucking sounds selected by the very friendly / familiar Davie Miller.
Five Green Moons / Moon 1 & Moon 2

Makeshift Art Bar / Lacklustre Writing Makes Fundamental Reading

Tony Morris / House of God (JD Twitch Mix)

Jehnny Beth / You Heartbreaker, You

Decius / Decius Vol II (Splendour and Obedience)

Young Fathers / White Dub are Black Dub Too (Tim London)

There are so many more I could put here. Never mind 7! I could list 77. I have bought more than an album a week this year. SO MUCH GOOD MUSIC MADE NOW.
