2025 saw Jon Tye employ his Ocean Moon moniker for a couple of high quality releases. First, right at the start of the year, there was the Ways To the Deep Meadow long-player for Music From Memory. A set of 3 suites inspired by a diverse, but interconnected collection of ideas, including Ai, the Gaia Hypothesis, Omega Point theory, re-wilding and Angus Maclise’s Universal Solar Calendar. Then, in August, Shimmering States was a long-form deep listen commissioned by Pinchy & Friends.
In between these 2 musical missives, Jon and his label, Lo Recordings, dropped the boxset Skintone Edition Volume 1, a collection of the celebrated Japanese “techno” pioneer Susumu Yokota’s most personal recordings. An absolutely essential retrospective that rightly topped “best of” lists the world over.
Here, Jon, very kindly shares some of the music that moved him from the last 12 months.
