Harry Dennis / Infinitely / JuJu Muzik

Chicago house legend, Harry Dennis – the iconic voice of Jungle Wonz and The It – teams up with producer Julian Garnett for a new single called Infinitely, on Julian’s label, JuJu Muzik. Here, the instantly recognisable Harry wonders at Mother Nature’s miracles and the cycle of life. His poetry packed with positivity and good vibes. The song comes in 4 mixes, the first, from Mark Hand, is an opulently orchestrated, rocking rumba. A sleek, smooth, shot of sophistication to rival even Harry’s former collaborator, Larry Heard. Jazz in its chords. Racing along on bongos, retro Juno 60-esque bass, and synthesised strings. Carl Grant’s Infinite Reflection remix boasts a groovy boogie B-line, and a rhythm that’s a bit more robotic. Those strings less symphonic. More like sirens calling folks to the dancefloor.

Julian’s own take is appropriately titled Acid Explosion, `cos he lets his TB-303 run off the hook. He also has his drum machine filtered and rattling like a ringer for Plastikman’s Spastik. As it builds to a pretty intense pounding, heavy and hypnotic, Harry’s lyric – “Here comes the light” – is looped, like an inversion of Lil Louis’ classic Blackout. Revisiting the proper old school, this mix is a fierce flashback to late `80s warehouse parties, raves, and dos like RIP at The Clink. A total recall return to the second summer of love. The excitement, the energy, and ecstasy. That rush. In contrast, ReKab’s version is an oasis of comparative calm. Still most definitely deep house, but laidback, soothing and sunset lullaby-like. Synths gently twilight twinkling. Creating more space for Harry’s words to resonate. More space for you to contemplate their heart-warming weight.

  1. 200 x vinyl was coming up really expensive. I nearly went ahead with it, but was advised by my distributor to hold tight for the time being. Something I will definitely be considering in the future, though.
