My 2023 was bookended by two brilliant albums from Calm. His Quiet Music Under The Moon was released in January, and although I only had 6 or 7 “gigs” last year, I played tracks from it at all of them. Then, in December, just as I was rounding things up, his 1999 sophomore set, Moonage Electric Ensemble, got a vinyl reissue, along with some super chilled dubs. In between, Calm had something of a stellar 12 months. First came his collaboration with Jimi Tenor, Big City Takes, and then he was mad busy, remixing folks. Artists such as Cantoma, Sergio Messina, and Seahawks. In the process further refining his “mellow acid” sound.
Super selections by Calm.
