Mysticisms have become one of my favourite labels. I don’t buy a lot of straight forward four-to-floor music these days, and their four-to-the-floor releases are far from straight forward. N-GYNN’s Alistera, for example, mixed up a whole heap of influences, including Tony Addis’ Warriors Dance, Tony Thorpe’s Moody Boys, and The Black Dog. All of which I’m a big fan of. Chari Chari’s Folk Remedy Anthems travelled the globe, collecting traditional instruments, such as woodwinds, tabla, and temple gongs, and fused them with techno trappings. On every E.P., there’s nearly always a touch of the tribals, and as DJ Nature once rightly reminded us, dancing is a mating ritual. Then there’s their Dubplate series, which switches between rescuing dubwise mutations that were previously only available on CD, and commissioning the future. I’m still waiting, excitedly, for the vinyl of the Doof, and Trance Vision Steppers, to drop. Here, Piers and Stu from the label, share a few of their favourites from the last 12 months.
