Woodleigh Research Facility / The Black Lodge

“The Black Lodge” takes its name from David Lynch’s “Twin Peaks”, and the TV show’s occult informed “extra-dimensional location”, “a place of pure evil through which all souls passed on the way to perfection.” Despite this sinister source of inspiration the track is, in fact, a proper, propulsive (Halloween?) party starter. Chugging, forcefully marching, on playful, percussive programming, while sound effects dive bomb and belch. Mad scientist Tesla coils buzzing.

“Max Gate Inc.” kicks a bit like Beltran’s “Energy Flash”. Its synth’s bottomless bellowing resembling a bell’s tolling being bent into strange shapes. Countered by bleeps and rapid, ritualistic mad monk chanting / possessed glossolalia vocals.

“One Forty” is an atmospheric collage of layered, creepy choral harmonies and eerie organ drones. Beatless, but boasting fidgeting, racing 140 BPM rave / trance frequencies. Breakdowns of fuzzed, electric axe feedback and whistling, haunted moorland winds. Kinda like if The KLF, instead of chilling out, took up residence in Lynch’s aforementioned realm of shadows.

All of these tracks, rescued from Woodleigh Research Facility’s vast Facility 4 vault, and dating back around a decade, can be ordered directly from Bandcamp.
